Objective 4 Testing and experimenting |
This is the section in your folder you can really make your own. You should have now decided upon a design from objective 3 which you would like to make. You should have chosen a design which best fits your target group and specification.
Remember your design can change from this point due to the testing and results you will do. You may find a technique that is better and more suited to your idea or even that what you thought you wanted to do just doesn't work, look good. This is fine as long as you justify and describe your thoughts. This Project is like a diary and should read like one.
*****You must have a toile in this objective. A toile is a prototype, a cheaply made up sample of a part of your product. You can use plain fabric for this, or any other fabric. A prototype is made in cheap material to reduce errors on your expensive fabric. They can be altered and re worked on until you get the desired effect/style. You have to do one!!!!
Here are a list of ideas of samples you could produce, the more samples you do and try the more unique your ideas will be. Also the better marks you will get. Try and mix media (mix the techniques up)
Tie dye
Fabric paint
Fabric pens
Batik (wax)
Embroidery- hand embroidery, stitching
Appliqué- zig zag stitching on machine
Beading and sequins
Cut work- sewing layers of fabric together and cutting layers out to reveal colours
Plaiting
Plain Dyeing
Fabric Manipulation- creasing, folding material
Seams- what seams will you use? plain, open, French, double?
Fastenings- what fastenings? buttons, zips, Velcro, poppers etc.....?

Evaluate your Samples |
When you have produced all the samples you need you must then evaluate them. Describe some of the following:
Was it easy or hard to produce?
Is it desired effect?
Is finish proffessional looking?
Is it suitable for age group targeting?
Could it be improved or worked on?
Are colours suitable?
Is it strong enough?
