What is a Specification? Contents Page
The specification is a list which gives all the information about the product you are making. It can be used like a tick list when you are designing to ensure you are sticking to the target group/product you have decided upon.
A specification should be written in bullet point form
It should cover some of the following points:
Performance- How ,where is the product meant to work?
Function of the product- What is the purpose of the product?
Appearance- how will it be coloured? What decoration will be on it?
What materials could be used? Characteristics which are needed
the max/min dimensions
general shape/ form of the product
special considerations or constraints required by consumer
likely costs in production
Safety- What safety factors and regulations need to be considered
Environmental issues- Are there any legal or environmental requirements the product should meet
Quality- how will you produce a marketable quality product. Consider quality assurance and quality control
Life in service- how long will the product be expected to last for?
